Building Bridges

Building bridges encourage healthy friendships, long lasting ones.
the Dream Project has helped me discover my hidden passion for mentoring while assisting me in building bridges with high school kids. It was such an honor to be involved in the life's of those high school kids.
Being able to enlighten the path for them for college admissions, and being someone who they can rely on for any doubts or worries was just amazing.
My mentor partner-Jon and I was assigned to 3 men-tees.

Sara- a bright and jovial teen! she was seldom there with us during those high school break-outs but times when she joined us, she brought so much more laughter and joy along! A diligent student with a positive mindset, she inspired Jon and I even more. There were times during our exam period, when I would get really tensed up worrying for my exams and wish I could take a break from Dream Project...but Sara made a change in how I was feeling.. Her presence just made me realize, I am devoting my time for a good course.

Nedzmina- from Bosnia! an intelligent and goal-oriented person. because of her enthusiasm in the process of college admissions, Jon and I had an easy time coaching her. She had most of her things done-SAT registration, extra-curricular activities in progress and she has even decided on the colleges she is going to apply to! I admire that girl.. at that age, having accomplished so much, she definitely is a role model to all her peers. The one thing significant about her-her devotion to volunteering!

Khalid- from Somalia! very calm, cool and collected. despite being in the States for only 2 years, he had a great command in English. He was very co-operative. He depicted an interesting character among our 3 men-tees. Being someone very calm and relaxed, at the same time he was still ambitious in getting to know more about college life and etc. Apart from Sara, he would be the one bringing more joy and laughter to the group.

The experience of assisting the college students with their college admissions was simply amazing!
Having the experience of going through the college admission process myself, I thought it would be nice if I could actually share it with those high school students.
If we don't reach out a hand to help them, who will? I am excited to come back in the fall and meet these students again! It will be their last year in high school , and I hope Jon and I can make a difference in their last year of high school life.
